Safar Group Safar Group of The Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) is member of Afghan Musicians that play Afghan Traditonal Music. Afghanistan was well known for its cultural diversity, and equally renowned for its music. Under the Taliban regime, music was forbidden but many master Safar project, (\’safar\’ means \’journey\’) Afghan musicians in their efforts to maintain and pass on their invaluable musical traditions and knowledge. A further goal of the project is the strengthening of mutual cultural understanding between world and Afghanistan. In this manner, existing cultural c
onnections between Afghanistan and other countries can be further strengthened. The cooperation between Afghan and German musicians enables musical c
ommunication that transcends language barriers. Concerts in Germany and Afghanistan Since 2012, the musicians have performed and held workshops in both countries. Th
eir repertoire includes both classical Afghan compositions and material which has been developed within the project. In the summer of 2012, five Afghan master musicians and two of their students joined three popular German musicians for a German tour. Safar Ensemble performed in Weimar, Rudolstadt, Bonn and Berlin. In the studios of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, the ensemble created a valuable musical documentation of their work. Following workshops in Weimar, the Afghan musicians held discussions with representatives of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), the Aga Khan Music Initiative, UNESCO and various official international and European organizations regarding the future of Afghan musical traditions in the world\’s intangible cultural heritage. The German radio stations WDR and RBB broadcast concerts from Rudolstadt and Berlin\’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Since then, Safar Group has performed in many national and International events and presented Afghan Music to the world
